Meetings are currently held in Madison, Wisconsin, the first Wednesday of every month from 7pm-9pm.  Prospective members are invited to attend one meeting at no cost. WSF also offers support to members who would like to meet regularly in other areas of the country.

Next Meeting September 1st, 2010

Time: 7pm-9pm

Location:  Lowell Lower Lounge

Topic:  “Mum’s the Word”

Description: What makes for good drama? Arguably, drama is deflated by TMI syndrome (Too Much Information!) but is enhanced by keeping the audience in the dark. Larry Sommers will offer provocative examples of how to generate mystery that motivates viewers to stay (or readers to keep reading) to find out what happens in the next scene.

Meetings Locations:

Usually: UW Lowell Center, 610 Langdon St.

Sometimes: UW Pyle Center, 702 Langdon St.

Pre-Meeting: Several members meet most months at 6 pm at the Kollege Klub (corner of Lake and Langdon, kitty-corner from the Pyle Center). Join us for conversation and a burger before the regular meeting. (The KK is open again. Our backup location is State Street Brats, corner of State and Francis. Both are one block from Lowell Hall, corner of Langdon and Francis.)

SPECIAL EVENTS:

The Fall 2010 WSF Member Retreat is approaching!  Sign-up now, only 12 more spots open!

When:  Friday, October 15th (check in starting at 3:30pm), Saturday, October 16th, and check out on Sunday, October 17th (12pm).

Where:  Three rustic lodges have been reserved in the Wisconsin Dells/Lake Delton area (see below the more details).

Details:  We had a very successful and fun retreat this past spring in these very locations.  Each participant is given their own room within the rustic comforts of three luxury lodges.  Spend the weekend with your writing peers.  Discuss and debate the craft and business of screenwriting. Relax and get to know each other.  Talk cinema.  But most importantly, have a weekend to get away from it all.  No distractions.  Enjoy your own space to read, write, and relax.  Go for a hike.  Go shopping.  We’ll also have a couple casual meetings to discuss screenwriting and the main lodge has a home theater with stadium seating, projection screen with DVD player, and surround sound so we can enjoy movie screenings.

Cost$100 per person.  This gets you your own room for the weekend, all meals provided except for dinner on Saturday (your responsibility), and access to an indoor pool and hot tub.  Not a bad deal, huh?

Deadline:  There are just 4 more spots open.  First come, first serve, so act now.  Contact Rebecca at memberservces@wiscreenwritersforum.org to get on the list and payment is due August 30th, 2010.

Payment:  We prefer that everyone pays using their debit or credit card using the below Paypal link.  If you do not have a Paypal account, just click on the choice they give you to pay using a debit or credit card.  If you prefer to pay by check or money order, please contact Rebecca.
